North Mississippi All-Stars Shake Hands North Mississippi All-Stars
Shake Hands with Shorty

First off, thanks to Jeremy. Secondly, this album rocks. Like Jon Spencer, only without the vacuum cleaners. Like JJ Cale, but you see them in a juke, not sitting outside a lonely Oklahoma Airstream trailer. Like the better moments of Little Feat, or your favorite delta blues album, with a high, thin, reedy slide style doing Allman Bros. licks. "Skinny Woman" has a nice collection of Allman-style stuff, but in their own less polished style (and this is just fine, it almost makes you wish the Allmans had done more juke joints :) "Goin' Down South" evokes Paul Butterfield and Electric-Ladyland-era Jimi Hendrix. "K. C. Jones" could be right off the Basement Tapes. Just amazing stuff. Posted by schampeo at July 17, 2000 03:11 PM
